What is MusMap?
MusMap is a community of classical musicians, contemprory composers, ensembles and organizers of classical concerts and events. It is not community site in the traditional sense because our aim is not make it a recreational site and use fun and games to attract as many as possible. We want to build a community of serious musicians and composers.
Who can create a profile on MusMap?
There are four types of profiles on MusMap:
Composers (for composers of contemporary music)
Musicians (for performers of classical, contemporary or experimental music)
Ensembles (chamber ensembles, orchestras, choirs...)
Organizers (for concert series, festivals, masterclasses etc...)
Who started MusMap and why?
MusMap was started by Icelandic contermporary composers and musicians to promote their, and their collegues', work. The idea behind it is to make the classical music community tighter, allowing us to hear what other people are doing and make new friends and professional contacts.
How is MusMap financed and how can I support MusMap?
It takes a lot of work running and maintaining a site like this one so every contribution really helps and speeds up improvements. We do not want to crowd the site with advertisments because we belive that they would be in your way and reduce the quality of the site. We rely on donations for now but optional premium memberships will be introduced later on.
Will MusMap be active outside the internet?
Yes! The first activities will be annonced soon. It will be a form of composition competition but other activities and concerts will hopefully follow
Can I submit content to MusMap? How do I do it?
Yes, you can submit material. Obviously you can submit all the material you want on your own profile but you can also submit other kinds of material. We rely on our users and visitors to submit information in order to make the site as comprehensive as possible. In the opportunities section we want to have as much relevant information for our community as possible and also if you have news from the world of classical music, please let us know.
If you have ideas about material for the site, contact us.
Will MusMap be translated to other languages?
At the moment there are no such plans. It is our believe that the community will be tighter if the site is only in one language. It also seems to be the case that a very high percentage of classical musicians speak more than one language and most of us speak english quite well (no one of the MusMap administration team speak english as their first language). So for the time being we will stick to one language.
That being said, there is nothing stopping you filling in your profile in another language, or even in multiple languages if you want to although we don't encourage it.
